    maybe I am a little generous because this film popped my 'black and white' cherry, but the cinematography was really on point to convey the narrowness of the protagonist's world.

    In the end max stops his pursuit of seeking the truth about nature. Why this is, is not so clear the film seemed to devolve into madness near the end.
    Perhaps he ends believing, after meeting the rabbis, that conclusions on this are always just a kind of fanaticism and, perhaps moved by the death of his mentor, reaches the same view as him--that nature is more than maths.

    Not so specific to this film, but I find the overuse of irony in dialogue a hard pill to swallow. Has conversation always been like this? Or is it a symptom of the vapidness of a post-enlightenment world that we must make fun of everything to display a kind of superiority over everything and its meaninglessness? Am I just a daffodil in a world of hardened people or am I just insane?
