    ★★★½

I expected this movie to be better than it was. The underlying plot is compelling and raises some interesting ethical questions. Also, points for a woman character who has more to offer than romantic interest -- I was pretty impressed by this, given the movie was made in 1992. This is not a controversial take, but Casablanca is a great movie. Romance has been maligned, and understandably so, but Casablanca tugs on arguably the most compelling thread romance has to offer, psychology. ★★

I went to this movie expecting very little, but it actually wasn't half as bad as far as blockbusters go. Was the plot thin? Yep, with holes to boot. Were the characters complex? No. Was the CGI good? Actually, it was terrible. And yet, this movie had an odd charm to it. The "dive seriously into Santa Claus' supply chain challenges" bits were funny, as were the random lurches into horror. The pacing was also surprisingly measured. The bar for this movie may have ben really, really low... but it managed to clear it and then some.
