  An oddly stylish yet sombre exploration of queer temporality, I Saw the TV Glow sets out to turn the coming-of-age genre on its head through its arthouse aesthetic and deliberately bleak (I would argue almost punitive) construction. The result is surprisingly muted, but I still left the cinema thoroughly disturbed by the end, as intended of course.

  Flavors of Youth 2018

  I held off watching this sooner as I wanted my first experience of the film to be with the original Mandarin dub. Unfortunately, this isn't an option on Netflix—which perhaps explains the streaming service's choice to list it as the International Version. Alas, I finally caved and watched it on Netflix anyway as the Mandarin dub is so painstakingly difficult to find I've begun to question its existence.
