A really invigorating rewatch. The funny scenes were funny and the scary scenes really linger. I love John Mahoney as Mathew/Faulkner.

The Richard Avedon sequences are amazing and the colors are so vivid. There’s a dreamlike quality to the whole movie that hit me just in the right mood to be bewitched.

Nobody does melancholy goodbyes like Bloody Sam. Such a sweet film. Robert Preston and Ida Lupino wear their age so beautifully. Probably Steve McQueen’s best-so cool, rugged, and understated.

Like Cooley High a movie that falls under the rubric of Blaxploitation that is really a chance for Black directors to express themselves. About a cop killing an innocent kid, it is surprisingly nuanced and looks at the case from multiple es. The most memorable thing is the intimacy of the film in its portrayal of family life. Also features young Larry Fishburne, who is obviously a natural.
