A Complete Unknown 2024
Timmy gives the best performance I’ve seen this year. He transforms himself and you genuinely feel like you are watching Bob Dylan live his life in the early 60s. However that’s also where the movie doesn’t totally work. That’s all that really happens here…. In Biopics I think we are used to major battles with addictions, climbing out of poverty, receiving a life altering diagnosis, breaking down gender/racial barriers, etc… there is nothing like that here. The stakes feel very low. Ultimately, the movie is carried by the performances and I think I’m ok with that.

The Natural 1984
The only “natural” here is Randy Newman. Honest to god it’s hard to think of another score that backpacks a movie more than this one. Also, damn you Kim Basinger! Be truthful for once damnit!
