The Witch 2015
Rewatched with Maz in my bed by candlelight, was wicked. Forgot that Eggers had written it in what they think was the dialect at the time - it works so so well and adds a theatrical element. Also is wicked that there are so many interpretations of the film/things you can focus on, makes for a good rewatch - sexualised women/witches/masculine pride/religious orthodoxy/how malleable the story is to be able to cast blame on every family member. Symbolism throughout is really fun to try to decode.

The Substance 2024
Coming at this sooooo late - I enjoyed from a pure entertainment perspective but it's on the verge of being a fast food film. It's really not that deep. It's a surface level observation of various issues but ultimately it's a body horror that spent too much time zoomed in on a crotch rather than the fun body horror bits and developing the film from there like any other body horror would. Also felt that the other you choosing to have the same career was a boring cop out.
