  All my life, I wondered what "Gimme some Chon Chon" meant and why random vatos would shout that at me in Jr High. I NOW KNOW and I feel like I am a better man for it. First half of this movie is BADASS. Chingos of great performances (Bratt, Chapa, Lindo). 2nd half dragged and kinda reminded me of watching a Dollar General-version of HBO's "OZ." Would still watch again if it was on late night TNT.

  THE Xmas movie to end all Xmas movies. Better than Miracle on 24th Street. Better than White Christmas. Better than The ELF. But not better than Muppet Christmas Carol. Paul Giamatti delivers a masterclass of being a curmudgeon asshole professor with a heart of gold. Give Da'vine Joy Randolph the best supporting actress oscar goddammit. It's like DUTCH (1991) meets Dead Poets Society (1989) but on Christmas.

  Excellent satire and extremely meta social commentary of the literary world’s viewpoint of black culture. Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown are absolutely dynamite! 9/10 would watch again.
