90s era fun easy comedy where the stakes are real but the world isn’t going to end. All in 90 minutes!

I thought we were having a nice cross cultural afternoon and then a deer had to fuck up my day

    The Brutalist

This movie proposes that the melting pot is fake: assimilation is impossible. One must either fully commit to the dominant group’s way of life or become the dominant group. Brutalism is simply an output of this uncompromising view of the world.

Personally I find that viewpoint depressing!

Does this director actually believe this? Or simply creates it to provoke? Or is it a portrait of a specific America at a specific point in history?

In any case, it’s done with such a clarity of vision that he must be lauded in creating this statement.
