very intense but also everything felt slow enough that none of the horrible things happening shocked me to the point of distress.

Belladonna of Sadness 1973
Went into this film with no prior knowledge except that the animation was gorgeous. The rape scene(s?) were pretty intense, and there seemed to be some colorism at play as Jean's skin grew darker as he became more wicked. I really liked Satan, especially when he first appeared as a tiny phallic sprite, and there were some WILD sex scenes in the movie that were both arousing and disturbed.
Overall it's a great film to analyze from an art history perspective, but probably not something you want to put on for a fun casual viewing with friends.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I get it ok. I get why they ended it the way they did. I just would've liked their connection to prove stronger than where they come from. It seemed like they wanted to make a point about class, so there was no space for a real conversation about their differences. Kate immediately launches into "You don't understand me." Yeah? Well nobody can understand another person without an explanation. Instead of immediately shutting sit down maybe talk it out? But no. Classism.
Good movie though. Nice visuals and brilliant acting.

Rushmore 1998
Still one of my top 3 Wes films, though on this rewatch the intensity of Max's pursuit of Ms. Cross was disturbing. When I first watched this I was closer to Max's age, and I was fully rooting for him. Now I'm like, back off, you creepy ego-maniac. Still made me cry at the end. We don't deserve Dirk.
