Alright- this is definitely deserving of best picture with a few caveats:
Anora’s character, personality, and backstory aren’t really explored at all-we really don’t get any weakness until the very last 10 seconds of the film. Also, there was no time spent on her falling in love-it just happens, and all we really see is her starting to like him (like the way she looks at him and smiles).

The movie, however, was messy? I’m sorry to say it, especially about Bong Joon-ho, and I was so excited for this film. I have not read the book, so I can’t speak to how accurate it was, but there were countless unfinished plot lines and details that we weren’t introduced to:

Perhaps I’m missing some of the luster of this movie because I never played the game, but it was truly terrible. For such a highly anticipated fan movie, you would think the plot would make more sense or the dialogue would sound more natural.
Vanessa’s character was flat out bizarre, probably the most unnerving part of the film. Also, you could see the plot twist ending from a mile away - seriously, I guessed it in the first 10 minutes…
I have to congratulate Luca Guadagnino for creating such a captivating web of relationships in this film, one that truly focuses on personalities. We know exactly what kind of person Tashi, Art, and Patrick are. The film gives us space to understand that without being overly explicit.
