  Very stylish, with a stellar performance from Peterson and a strong one from Cox as his foil. Despite that, this didn’t really click for me. The back half felt rushed, and in my mind it suffers from comparison to the 2002 adaptation.

  The movie has many of the most beautiful and recognizable shots I’ve ever seen, but it dearly misses a stronger through line.

  In some ways it’s a testament to the pure cinematographic quality of Ron Fricke that all the house mixes on YouTube are still pulling their looped footage from this, 20 years later.

  Originally a 3.5/5, but I may bump this up depending on how much I think about it in the coming weeks.
