After it was over, I thought it was okay. But then I kept thinking about it more and more. What an incredibly unique movie. The score is just bonkers. The analogy between cannibalism and colonialism is hella clever. And the characters are memorable and well acted. It’s a unique and entertaining ride. Never seen anything like it.

It’s so easy to forget while watching this that it’s from 1931. The kangaroo court scene is an absolute classic. Peter Lorre portrays this creep masterfully. It’s difficult to know the right choice for his fate. In murdering a monster you become the monster. Perhaps it’s the right choice but compassion is a powerful thing.
