Nickel Boys is a stunning achievement in contemporary film. Most of the praise the Brutalist receives is more aptly deserved here. The way Ross captures the stillness of childhood observance through the black experience was truly brilliant. Certainly, through the late second act, the pacing grinds to a halt. The Brutalist 2024
An anachronistic epic that aptly demonstrates the procedural dissonance between the artist and the wealthy patron. I’m grateful that it abandons the sterility of the digital format for a more warm film stock that does justice to its 20th century setting.
