girl calm down you've only known him 3 days, how could you possibly be to the point of "oh I can't imagine life without you"

My criticism aside, this was a fun and cute movie. A much needed reprieve from the trials the Best Picture list has been throwing at me. The acting is good all the way around, and the camera work really stood out to me; everyone looks so damn good, especially Claudette Colbert!

for a movie about how the passage of time changes things, this movie really didn't bother making sure the various time skips were cohesive as we jumped from year to year. every character has remarkably little character development too, except Alfred, who goes on to be a drunkard; though, i must say, everyone acts with such passion and fervor i can somewhat forgive this. this movie also falls victim to the "plain" camerawork that plagued early hollywood, and the soundtrack…

i bet this was impressive for its time but seriously now... the lead actresses aren't believable, the camera work is garish and boring, the concept itself isn't that interesting, the score is bland... need I say more?

the only highlight of this movie was the ✨zesty✨ stage manager, who was a complete shock because, yknow, it's 1929! pre-Code film was wilding. anyways stream Wings (1927) or All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) if you want to watch a good pre-Code Best Picture winner.
