Like that underrated 1992 classic, The Card Counter belongs to the series of Schrader’s God’s Lonely Man films — beginning with the Martin Scorsese directed Taxi Driver, followed by the Schrader-directed American Gigolo, The Walker, First Reformed, etc. These are the stories that Schrader tells best — and better than anyone!
