An ugly mess told through bizarre directing, acting and staging choices. I wish I could erase this from my memory, honestly. Extra half star for Jessica Alexander (playing Human Ursula Vanessa) who got it when nobody else did.

Worth a watch just for Saoirse Ronan as Lady Macbeth frankly. A hypnotic, magnetic, layered performance. The rest of the show is very good too with particularly clear diction from the cast and some interesting visual ideas. Yael Farber always directs everything in the exact same way so once you have seen one of his productions you won’t be surprised by others.
Saoirse, you will always be famous.

Nope, don’t get it. A bunch of annoying characters being petty and childish towards each other. None of the actors impressed me - but then they didn’t have much to work with - except Colin Farrell who had some layers and depth to his performance that was lacking elsewhere.
If feeling generous, I could see this as a microcosm of the civil war that keeps being unsubtly brought up throughout. If not, I found the whole thing pretty unnecessary, dull and pointless. Was it meant to be funny? Just not on the right wavelength I guess.
Bonus half star for Jenny the donkey.

Incredible stuff. I was riveted throughout despite the lengthy runtime and the dialogue-driven nature of the screenplay. Ominous, tense and layered. Cate Blanchett gives the best performance I have seen from her - and that is saying a lot. A character study par excellence that also speaks to current societal pressures and ideas in a slippery, intelligent, unstable and profound way. So much to unpick and ponder here. A staggering achievement on all fronts.
