for some reason, bong joon ho can only make (edit: cannot speak to snowpiercer) an english language film that feels like okja -- over exaggerated rich leader, cute little interaction with otherworldly animal, exploration of scifi theme, (mostly) happy ending.
stark contrast to his korean films. even the host, being scifi + unknown beast in nature was scarier and the stakes felt more real.
I had a mostly good time. had fun watching robby patty. ruffalo being a cross between trump + elon was an interesting and eerie touch. had fun watching him do his thing, too.

i have some downtime so i guess i'll review sundance films. this movie almost felt more like a novel in its exploration of individual characters, societal morality, inter-generational intimacy, commercial pressure when creating art or pursuing anything wholeheartedly. however, it's also more of a novel in that it doesn't use the medium of film very well aside from exceptional acting.

Stress Positions 2024
I had a lot of fun watching this movie ngl. Chaos gazing at its finest. The screenplay was incredible and I laughed way too loudly at parts for my seat neighbor's taste.
The whole movie is full of people that i'd run away from at a party after talking for five minutes bc they're incredibly dull or feel like they're gonna drag you deep into their shit. Except I would definitely have one raucous, beautiful conversation with karla if given the chance.
