Weird Science has no rhyme or reason to it, but that doesn’t stop it from being hilarious. Talk about a film that would never get made today, as even the premise is wildly problematic. But it’s a fun time capsule of the 80s and the chemistry between Anthony Michael Hall and IIan Mitchell-Smith is fantastic. They seem like real friends.

Locked 2025
Locked is a briskly entertaining and claustrophobic thriller. It’s not reinventing the wheel in any regards, but it is engaging throughout. Bill Skarsgard is a great screen presence and I found his relationship with his daughter to be surprisingly moving. That being said, it feels like this would work best as a streaming watch on a rainy day.
I enjoyed Locked, but I’m still waiting for the first truly great movie of the year.

Snow White 2025
It’s a shame that Snow White is being criticized for being “woke” instead of just being “terrible”.
That being said, there was a little girl in my audience who seemed really into the movie which made me happy. I’m not the target audience, so at least it worked on those it was aimed for. But yikes, man. Bafflingly bad.

The Invisible Man 1933
James Whale does such a good job with these movies, man. He’s becoming one of my new favorite directors. The Invisible Man makes the absolute most of its premise with timeless effects that still hold up to this day. Claude Rains makes such an impact in this film without ever showing his face. He’s deliciously evil doing peak mad scientist shit. He also kills so many damn people. I didn’t even know you could kill that many people in movies back then. They just have to get their comeuppance.
