    The Whale

For better or worse, The Whale has been built up to be the ultimate feel-bad movie of the year.

At least, The Whale was set up to be an unshapely and unpleasant pill of a movie, but surprisingly, the product itself is not messy in execution at all -it’s quite clean and linear.

The keystone that holds the entire film into place is the humanization of the main character Charlie, played by Brendan Fraser. He is not depicted as a…

What does it take to be in on the joke?

Freddy Got Fingered has been undergoing a small but steady cultural reevaluation in recent years, with many now claiming that this once universally panned, to-be benchmark of bad filmmaking may have instead been a misunderstood work of art. Screened in IMAX

Spring Breakers was the breakthrough film for A24 and it’s not hard to see why it made waves. When this thing came out, people were PISSED… but man they were talking about it.

Spring Breakers is total gutter poetry and probably the prime example that Harmony Korine is more talented than just the trashy gimmick flicks he likes to make.

I can’t believe this was a stealth remake of Bicycle Thieves (1948) this entire time.

But seriously though, this stands as a remarkable film that completely defies its era and becomes a true meeting of the minds between Paul Reubens, Tim Burton, and Danny Elfman, who are all eager to cut their teeth and shoot for the moon with a truly one of a kind production. RIP Paul Reubens, 1952-2023.

He’s really more of a mime than a clown, isn’t he? Does “Art the Mime” just not have a good ring to it or something?
