Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo 1984
An eighties Step Up where dance is the answer no matter what question. Turbo and Ozone are interesting characters with some nonbinary ass names, the Miracles community center seems like a place I’d hang out, and the fashion in this movie is inspirational as hell. When was the last time the aiguillette was fashionable? Was it the eighties? They were wearing handcuffs as a belt, what a vibe. Big hair everywhere, neon everything, and a classic suit and tie white…

Inside Out 2 2024
It’s great seeing Riley grow up, dealing with new challenges and social situations. The new emotions are all represented well and make sense for where Riley is at in her life. I like what they did with the antagonist, who has understandable motivations which I am always a fan of. Killer and I mean like top notch animation and direction when it comes to anything hockey, as well. Gets a little slow, but I enjoy all the brain puns. Also Ennui ❤️

Atlas 2024
I wasn’t expecting much but they got me. The script is not the best, the plot isn’t the most original, but the execution still felt new and novel since the approach to robot revolution was centered much more in modern AI technology than say iRobot ever was. Feels like Siri is in a supporting role here, and the meta-narrative comes down to “you actually can trust AI” which was expected but still more emotionally charged than I had first imagined.

Civil War 2024
Beautifully unsettling. Visceral and eerie, an honest look at the cost of war and the sacrifices of wartime journalists. Seeing modern American cities and infrastructure as the background of a war zone is unsettling, and this movie doesn’t shy away from showing horrific details highlighting the inhumanity and cruelty present on both sides. The pacing can be quite jarring- there are many moments of lightness as characters try to cope with their emotions and process their experiences together.
