Love and its most natural characteristics: urgency, longing, and even fear. A bright light you never knew until you found it - or at least forgot until you rediscovered it. The essence of will, the thrill of waking up on a Thursday when your routine is all about giving yourself in to another. The meeting of two trains running in opposite directions: so fast, so felt, but impossible to last. Celia Johnson and one of the most memorable, daydreamy pair of eyes to ever exist in romantic melodramas.

Carrie 1976
When De Palma's Carrie is the subject, its most common discussions tend to revolve around its most known and "remarkable" moments, which is understandable. What shouldn't be forgotten, however, is how De Palma's craft is a nonstop workforce right from the go. In the first few seconds, we have a God's view camera angle of a high school volleyball court. At first, the spectator is drawn to the ongoing match and its main players, but the camera slowly drifts towards…

Tokyo Heaven 1990
Recovering time lost and what it actually means to be alive. The other side as the only path to find true freedom, as the answers to the questions of the soul cannot be found through the material. Somai's characters are trapped in the corporate world, but they still long. Long for a life in which they freely blow their trombones through the dead of night, or just long for something as simple as a decent night of sleep, although the…

Dear Diary 1993
One of the most honest and introspective trips through life itself. Moretti's vivid rides, walks, talks and dances through Italian alleys and islands are just as whimsical - as he himself chooses to describe - as Giuseppe Lanci's camera is revealing. The film flows freely through Italian buildings, landscapes and society, unveiling not only meaning, but also the ultimate absence of it (as it happens in that Stromboli's climax scene). Leave it to Moretti to create such a full of life film, able to flow seamlessly between societal, natural, historical and self conscious themes.

Nosferatu 2024
Eggers thinks he can direct a film about sexual imprisonment and liberation, but such is an impossible task for an individual who only lusts for - supposed - accuracy, be it a (faux) historical one, or one in which he drowns his own craftsmanship through void symmetricality. This movie's lack of texture and distant approach to its characters and society ultimately evokes the idea that its own storyteller doesn't believe in anything that's being told, it is all just an…

Magnolia 1999
edit: I don’t like this text at all, I think I got much better at expressing film opinions later on… regardless of that, I still hate Magnolia and all that it represents. Inhumane and intoxicating piece of “melodrama”. Still, I shall keep it because some people seem to like it:
To my surprise, I disliked a Paul Thomas Anderson film for the first time. Not only surprise, but huge disappointment, too.
None of his films are one of my all…
