  You can say Hamaguchi is too polished but, his details are too messy. His films are a delightful embrace surrounding the viewer within the walls his characters attempt to break out of. Bergman is certainly an influence complete with moments of magic which here you will find in the third story.

  My theory of cinema is you can only understand its power thru experimental and/or silent film. For me this first happened with Dreyer’s Joan of Arc and then this. I think about both films almost everyday.
