Bong Joon Ho’s evangelism for respecting the inherent soulful value of non-human creatures gets me every time.

Simultaneously super-delicate and maddening enough to make me want to smack some of its characters hard, this is a very special film, disarmingly quiet and horrifyingly loud, with perfectly-pitched performances from everyone, heroes and villains alike.

Queer people exist, no matter how much insidiously calm straight violence tries to erase us.

    Now, this is a movie

I had no real idea of what to expect and I’m so glad I entered that way, because this is an invigorating, funny, socially conscious gem that throws curveballs with such dizzying vigor that it’s impossible to separate the moments when your brain is being schooled and when your heart is being squeezed and when your thriller-loving-cinephile spirit is being deeply, disturbingly satisfied.

Another steamy, assured masterwork from Reolon and Matzembacher that playfully and seriously excavates the dangers of desire, the perils of performativity, the edges of identity, and the pernicious private decisions that public life demands of all of us, especially queer folks.

Almost Almodóvarian, especially with its Herrmann-adjacent score, but something wholly neo-neo-noir and wholly its own.
