  Despite myself and everything that is awfully wrong with this film, I find myself still weirdly liking it. At the same time, it is horribly racist towards Arabs and is such an Israeli propaganda piece, that I have to loathe it as well (Never mind the homophobia and sexism, which, through today’s lens, becomes too much to bear).

  A strong performance and terrific score can’t make up for an incredibly shallow film. Todd Phillips’ surface exploration of both mental illness and wealth inequality offers nothing new or insightful about either subject. On the contrary, both of these themes seem to exist only as vehicles for striking (and familiar) imagery and violence. It’s pure lip service and meaningless catch phrases meant to somehow elevate the film and make it important, while it doesn’t seem to actually be about anything…
