  To a cynic this kind of scans as Oscar bait, but the emotional and moral core of this film brought me to tears. The world is terrible and we have made it thus. Jeremy Irons as Gabriel and Robert De Niro as Rodrigo have a beautiful, uneasy chemistry as two men with different philosophies and backgrounds striving for the same ideal. A fair criticism is that the Jesuit missionary project is presented too positively, but in contrast to the brutality…

  Guy who gets PTSD in the union army joins the fake Meiji version of the confederacy. If Nathan Algren were a guy in 2020's America he would be promoting perineum sunning online and probably be into QAnon. In spite of everything this movie earns its right to exist by being very entertaining throughout the runtime, especially when Ken Watanabe
  and Tom Cruise do the bro handshake from Predator.
