  Why would you choose to adapt a story like this if you were scared of how dry it was? The book is excellent, but the movie is constantly making unnecessary tweaks and little verbal additions that I guess the creators thought would elevate the stakes. Not only did they not add anything to the story, but they came across as cheap. And that's not even getting into how badly they've mischaracterized the hunting party. It seems a willful act of ignorance considering there are only four characters to keep track of.

  The tropes are played out both from a slasher perspective and from a satirical perspective. Leaning into the whodunnit aspect probably is the best route forward if a route needed to exist

  One of the better showings from Tim Burton in a long time. Too many plot threads, though, and none of them were fleshed out or resolved in a satisfactory way.
  Keaton reprised his role well, but Winona has the same mannerisms that really got under my skin in Stranger Things. Her energy never seems to match her lines or the situation.
