    "I am your singing telegram!"

i went into it thinking "what could they possibly do with a clue movie?" to my surprise, they managed to work in quite a few references to the game itself in the setup, plot, and specific phrases. the characters are all fun idiots, and they run around, beat each other up and say stupid things so much. and i didn't expect it to have so many great line deliveries. it's so cheeky.

"When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything."

i wish i could write any review that didn't sound like this movie jacked me off and kissed my forehead, but it's just that good. it's too funny, clever and moving to fit into a tiny text box. absurd and nihilist and ruthlessly emotional. would've been so even if it weren't punctuated by some of the most dazzling editing i've ever seen.

"i'm scared of whatever cringe fucking bullshit donnie's about to do"
    - joshless, watching donnie walk determinedly toward a location

had to google "donnie darko explanation" to see if i missed anything important, because the movie keeps a lot of balls in the air at the same time, but it's a fun brainfuck as you learn about a timeloop while it's happening. some parts went unexplained and were hard to follow. donnie's hard to watch sometimes. worth a rewatch?

    John Wick: Chapter 2

I think this movie loses a point on tight writing and gains another on cinematography and comedy - the wondrous harshly-lit locations are only matched in entertainment value by john wick tumbling down a set of stairs twice in a row. my friends and I cackled out loud multiple times.

we talked about how it's like every character in this movie has a level like in a videogame, and the higher the level the harder it is to kill them.…
