Why stretch a shot beyond a scene or three? It just feels like reading a book without any paragraphes; needlessly tiring. And all that extra camera movement just pulls me out of the story - making me more aware of the camera there that needs to move to get the reaction, etc.

I wish I had a part in making this, or even just had a bit of the heart, eye, skill, and dedication needed to finish a project like this. Wow.

Ik kan veel positiefs zeggen over hoe ze Skunk in beeld (en in geluid!) gebracht hebben, maar kan me echt niet achter het scenario scharen.
Het voelt zo verkeerd om dit verhaal te vertellen zonder een sprankel van hoop. Meer dan als een boodschap “voor hulpverlening” voelt de film als een wanhoopskreet aan, zonder richting of perspectief. Extreem en gitzwart.
Niet dat er simpele antwoorden zijn, noch dat die moedeloosheid geen schermtijd verdient, maar het mag niet het enige…
The most realistic/ambivalent characters are Moishe and her grandmother.
All the others are characters from the children's tale that a mother would tell her children about "where she came from". Editing out what sordid situations the intense control within such a closed-off community could lead to and romanticizing the escape as being nothing but wonderful, where everyone on the other side is (annoyingly) loving and understanding ànd offering her chances of a lifetime.
