I had fun. I do believe that Anthony Mackie makes a great Cap, but high key, he deserved a better movie. One thing I was anticipating was fight choreography, and it just felt clunky and slow sometimes. Crazy that the movie had a big budget only to deliver a microwaveable dinner instead of a gourmet meal.
That said, much credit to supporting actors in this one. Although the story was lacking, their performances deserve the spotlight.
Revisiting this in IMAX, years later, after becoming a parent, has to be one of the coolest things I’ve experienced. The incredible music, phenomenal visuals and heart-wrenching performances are meant to be experienced in a theatre. This might have solidified its position as one of my favourite films… ever.
The story doesn’t find its footing until the latter third of the film, but some great action sequences, memorable lines, while paying homage to its predecessor.
This was a fun experience to have in theatres. I think the film did a great job at bringing us back to the general atmosphere that the original movies had, while also giving us some new horrors to process and lose sleep over. It was interesting to see a younger cast, delivering solid performances. There were some weird moments in the film where I just had to accept what was happening because it made absolutely no sense. But that didn’t really take away from a great time.
