    Even on my dozenth-plus rewatch, so much new spills out of Apocalypse Now, things I’d not noticed in past views. The Odyssey undertones. The trip back in time. The way the score goes back in time as the setting does, developing upriver into Mickey Hart primeval drumming. What an insane film. I’m so happy it exists. 

    First time watching The Final Cut. I think at the end of the day I want to be in this world as long as possible when I watch it, and that means next time I’ll probably throw on Redux instead.

    I know this is a pivotal part of cinema greatness. I know it’s shot in stunning 70mm. I know it’s one of the best editing jobs in history. I know it is one of the greatest accomplishments of shot design, staging, and set and actor management on a huge scale. I know it inspired Dune. I know there are many, many richer and deeper things I should reflect on, seeing this classic for the first time.
