You know a film has achieved excellence when, having finished it, you want to restart it right away, both to grab more of the little details and to spend more time in the director’s world.
This film achieved excellence.
One of those movies that it feels like everyone reveres because they’re supposed to instead of because it’s good. And yeah, I get the meta-commentary on the soullessness of American consumerism (it just repeatedly smacks you in the face). But the really bad acting, unwarranted character and tonal shifts, and absolutely bizarre editing and score choices just add up to a bad movie. I’d urge others to admit it’s bad, too, but, like the zombies, they’re just acting out what they remember.
