  Positively vibrating with a sort of evil nervous energy, poison seeping into every immaculately composed image. Curtis’s little weasel is one of the great figures in US cinema, the dark side of so many of the striver heroes of American movies, and Lancaster, holy moly. Probably has like 4 or 5 of the greatest scenes ever shot on balance

  On rewatch I was able to just luxuriate in the grand sweep of the thing. Flawed but honestly I find it hard to get hung up on any of the problems, just too dazzled by the theatrical experience.
