God this is such a good rewatch. It’s really really exciting to watch Peele become the filmmaker he is today- he’s going full Kubrick and I’m all here for it.

So thought-provoking, layered, and legitimately horrifying. Everything involving Jupe is nightmare-inducing.

There are about 2/3 different stories in here that are kind of mushed together (the cue cards separating each “section” kind of speaks for itself). Wish it was a little more cohesive and we felt more of OJ/Emerald’s journey but I still love it.

    The Royal Tenenbaums

This is the first Wes Anderson movie I’ve rewatched in a while (aside from Rushmore) and his quirkiness suddenly felt overbearing. Maybe it’s the way the style blends with the reality of NYC? Maybe it’s the absurd number of characters we shove in who are introduced by Alec Baldwin?

Whatever, it’s still a really funny movie and moves me to tears by the time it finishes. Gene Hackman was on another level.

Visually, this film is outstanding. Its dark without overdoing it, its telephoto shots are never the wrong type of shaky, and the style is impeccable.

Sean Baker shoots the fuck out of Brighton Beach & Coney Island. So happy to see that part of Brooklyn get its due.

I'm happy to say that this feels like Baker's most accomplished work, although I don't think its my personal favorite of his. To me, these characters feel a little less lived-in than those in Florida Project or Red Rocket (but that could because the world of Anora exists in a much different, less relatable tax bracket). The movie still…
