Witchboard 1986
Sometimes horror have subplots that are quite a bit more interesting than the horror elements, and in Witchboard (which btw introduced a mythology that was repeated as an urban legend across every kid in the late 80s) the story of spirits is not as interesting as the heart of the film, the story about two guys who were best friends, fell apart and try to get closer again. The only really bad thing in the film is the jump scares…

Shadow in the Cloud 2020
I did not expect to like this one as much, at least until the final act. At worst, it is a competent Doctor Who episode without the doctor. At best, which are the scenes before the Twist is revealed, it is a very competently made bottle episode/claustrophobic horror.
Must say that the very last few minutes before the ending are very cathartic as well.
