Bonus points for an A+ viewing experience at the Library of Congress Packard campus with a great audience and an unhinged intro and Q&A with the director.

Prometheus 2012
4 stars for the cinematography, philosophical plot, and Michael Fassbender playing Peter O'Toole's Lawrence of Arabia. It was the ideal prequel in that it didn't try to copy the original or be the full origin story. But 3 stars for the other characters that weren't compelling or were actively annoying.

Dune: Part Two 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Everything technical about this movie was great: the acting, production, sound, cinematography, etc. Where it fell short was the heart, the story. Despite the acting, the motivations and struggles of the characters felt surface level. There wasn't enough tension or depth to allow me to truly care if any of these characters died. If there had been more complex political dynamics and power shifts to make up for it, it would have made for a more compelling watch.

Women Talking 2022
This movie was at its best when there were, as its title suggests, women talking. Seeing the women processing, intellectualizing, dreaming, and debating how to respond to the horrific actions of the colony's men held the richest meaning for me. The set-up and resolution of the story were more plotted and contrived than they needed to be, which pulled away focus from the women and their discussions.
