  I love an earnest film, and this is certainly a great one. It tackles the majorly triggering subject matter in a way that is uncompromising to reality. Definitely recommend looking up the triggers before watching, as I was not aware of what was gonna go down. That said, I was also not expecting this film to be as necessary as it is. It’s bold as hell.

  I feel obligated to say that I almost gave it 5 stars, but it was a little too numbing for me personally. I’ve got enough trauma of my own that I don’t think I could ever watch this movie often.

  Incredible! As an individual with a lot of trauma related to organized religion, I was very hesitant when I first heard about this film. Religion is front and center for the entirety of the plot. However, this film never wavered in its quality or intrigue. 

  Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci put me at ease. Their characters are instantly understandable yet deeply complex. Both are advocates for progress in the church, which is bold and refreshing for a story that relies on maintaining a more neutral stance on the church.

  This movie had me cheering, booing, crying, and gay gasping.
