  Del Toro does vampires! It’s an interesting take/inversion of a vampire movie. Plays with themes of time, addiction, rebirth and religion. The organic and mechanic come together to defy mortality. It’s shot beautifully, the cast is great and includes another nice villainous Ron Perlman role as a kind of Renfield. It has the childlike wonder that most of Del Toro’s work does. It tells you enough but shows you even more. It’s easily one of my favorite vampire movies, definitely worth a watch. Pun intended.

  A slasher shot almost entirely from the perspective of it’s mute, merciless killer. The movie nails the style, it has a handful of extremely memorable kills, and the mask design is haunting. The complete lack of score adds to the weight of the film, but it also doesn’t take it’s too seriously. This is one for the early 80’s slasher crowd.
