    Past Lives

    ★★★★★

Past Lives never goes to the melodramatic direction and settles for the grounded human interactions throughout the runtime. The long, meaningful looks between dialogue and the words exchanged unravel many emotions, and they're enough to build up to a possibly tear-jerking ending, especially when writer-director Celine Song and her leads manage to make you deeply invested in the relationship of the characters.

Leave the World Behind slowly creeps through conflicts, and the pace might turn off some people, but Sam Esmail assembled a magnetic cast and weaves through its plot with an ominous atmosphere and slick cinematography, some compositions and dizzying movements reminding me of Mr. Robot and the zoom-ins and -outs reminiscent of '70s movies.

P.S. I want to live in that exquisite house.

Halloween Ends is a hodgepodge of half-baked ideas, with the inevitable confrontation between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers slapped in at the last minute. Thankfully, Jamie Lee Curtis warned us that this movie will divide people, so it helped me manage my expectations.

Introducing a new central character this late in the trilogy is a big risk I would've admired, but that character ended up taking the spotlight away from the true core of this franchise.

    Fortunately, the kills here…
