Haven’t seen the original, but idk if that would give any context to the story. This movie is a psychological horror film with numerous fake out visions. It just ends up being confusing.
Shawnee Smith (Amanda in Saw) is great here though, and there’s some interesting ideas. But they’re wasted on a boring drama movie that becomes predictable and repetitive after like 20 minutes:
Alex thinks she’s going crazy and has a vision. She talks about it. Repeat.
And then…
The pacing is a bit too fast at times, but a rewatch solves this and lets you enjoy a hyper energized, stylistic action horror film with solid acting (great cast), characters, and atmosphere.
The action ranges from brutal close calls to epic and enjoyably ridiculous sequences. The stampede scene where Abe and a vampire do parkour on top of horses is fantastic, and then train fight finale is also amazing.
