    Ebirah, Horror of the Deep

With a beautiful island setting, vibrant colors in the costume design, and energetic direction from Jun Fukuda, this film breathes some much-needed life into the Godzilla franchise after a lackluster previous entry.

Godzilla's battles with Ebirah are unique and fun, and they filled with delightfully silly moments (the two play volleyball with a boulder at one point). There's also a bizarre moment where Godzilla gets horny for a human woman, which only makes sense when you realize this was originally…

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Revisiting this before I check out the remake this weekend.

Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is cute. It’s got nice animation, fun characters, and a menacing villain (the old hag still creeps me out). It’s also slow, meandering, and poorly aged. But I don’t care about that, because I think it’s a very important film.

    Good Grief

    Show, don't tell.

Don't just tell me about grief. Show it to me. Allow me to feel it. It's weird that in a story about allowing yourself to grieve, the audience is kept at a distance from the grief. Character development is summarized rather than shown, which makes it difficult to connect with what is going on. What should be a film filled with powerful emotion ends up being a forgettable experience where I felt very little.

It's a shame, because the performances are all pretty solid, and the story had a lot of potential. I wish this was better than it was.

    She Came to Me

What the hell was this movie?

It’s hard for me to articulate why I found this so terrible. The story feels like they combined three different scripts together. There’s the composer with writer’s block who gains inspiration after he has an affair with an unstable and quirky boat captain. There’s the therapist who wants to become a nun because of guilt (I think). And there’s the romance between an 18 year and a 16 year old that’s framed as pure…
