It’s been so long since he died but I still miss Robin Williams, and there’s something particularly poignant about watching him navigate the afterlife - especially one so visually captivating and beautiful as this. The script is sometimes a bit trite and saccharine, and there’s a couple of problematic elements that haven’t held up too well, but the strength of the visuals and creativity of the presentation of heaven and hell combined with the sincerity of Williams’s acting hold the whole thing together, and I would lie if I said I didn’t shed a couple of tears throughout.

    R.I.P Robin Williams ❤️

The strength of the movie lies in its realistic examination of a sociopathic murderer. This is unfortunately coupled with a less compelling plotline involving the obsession of a man wanting to know why/how his partner vanished.

Many interesting things in this movie, and a lot I enjoyed, but was a bit let down for me by pacing and structural issues, which removed any sense of mystery or intrigue. Also, its central portrayal of the banality of evil leaned a bit too much into the banal for me to ever feel fully immersed or interested.

This was a huge bump for Take That.

Edit: I’ve kept switching between 4 and 3.5 stars for this, but ultimately the second half dragged a bit too much and at times Anora’s mistreatment felt too played for laughs for me to comfortably stick with 4 stars. Pretty good movie though.
