I am unabashedly smitten with this film. Its storytelling, pacing and colors, its faces and fabrics, its darkness and wetness. A beautifully rendered work of mythology told with moving pictures and forms. I don't know how to be sensical here. This movie is gorgeous and brutal, sad and hopeful. There are moments of frustration and impatience, and I can't tell if that's the movie purposefully making me fell that way, or the characters feel that way. I don't care. It's that I'm feeling it, really feeling it.

What a delight! Great cast, fun dialogue, good pacing, though I wanted and needed my Flula Borg. I mean, right?
I particularly enjoyed the body horror aspect and scenes. It's Gunn's early film education coming into play and it worked really well with the story. Quite pleased with the dynamic of all the cast and characters, finding a lot to like about John Cena. The village murders were especially dope af and incredibly hilarious.
The end was sad though as it reminded me of The Creature From the Black Lagoon. Starro didn't want to be there in the first goddamn place! Humans suck.

Just rewatched this and still enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, it's probably about 20 minutes too long but I like seeing Jonathan Pryce chew the scenery.

I love the heavy-handedness of both GI Joe movies. This one is more militant, as the first one was more cartoon-y, which I absolutely loved! So with less of a hokie nature for Retaliation, you had to buy more into what they were buying into, so to speak. Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson's chemistry…

You just never know the true range an actor has until he works against a non-corporeal co-star.

I've been thinking about this one for a long time since seeing it. And it truly is my favorite performances of both Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlet Johanson. I barely recognized Amy Adams, which also brings me to the point that I need to see more of all of these actors acting because reasons!

Anyway, it's a love story. Pure and simple, yet not…
