Very textural, in an audio-visual ASMR manner. It hits heavily on the feeling of alienation that I kind of resonate with sometimes; that we are often just making noises hoping our intended signal gets interpreted, and these of kind of things just happens to revolve around stuff most important to us.

I don't want to be that contrarian guy but Sean Baker has made better movies with more compelling settings and cast of characters. The comedy in the middle salvaged it. Mikey Madison's performance was great, her accent felt a bit played up. Still, the final scene was brilliantly staged and acted.

I have no idea why or who they made this for. People who are already anime fans will likely find this annoying and people who don't give a shit about anime will find this even more annoying.
The only reason I got through this is because of the interviews.

I don't live in America, but this film did a better job than news articles in making an illiterate on racial tension be more aware of it, without being overly preachy and in-the-face. It's a really well-made film with separate set pieces playing off each other and, ultimately, coming to a pretty relevant and understandable climax in the night of one hot, humid summer day.
