    Beautiful cinematography illustrates an impressionist vision of the horror of war. Indeed, "this is how the world ends". However, this vision is muddied by an inability to shed the imperialist veil it intends to criticize. And the soundtrack...didn't age well. I always thought Heart of Darkness was overrated; I think this movie is as well. If you want a better portrait of the absurdity of the Vietnam War - and of modern war in general - watch Full Metal Jacket.

    Surprisingly underwhelmed. Three and a half out of five.
