I can’t verify this, but I think this movie may have set the record for most cuts in under 100 minutes. It probably averaged one per second.
This movie was a cinematic representation of what the inside of an untreated ADHD mind feels like. It was manic and frantic and made me highly uncomfortable.
A babyfaced Owen Wilson shows up to tell us it drives him crazy when people call Jethro Tull a person and don’t realize it’s a band. And while this is an entirely valid grievance under normal conditions, they are facing the possibility of the end of the world so I feel it wasn’t really the time to lament people’s ignorance surrounding 70s progressive rock bands.
This movie is a masterpiece for all the wrong reasons.

Despite how crushingly derivative it was, this was a fun movie. Carey was brilliant, obviously. The writing for Donut Lord and his Donut Lady could have used another few rewrites though.
Netflix suggested this to me on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I was expecting maybe a Mighty Ducks kinda vibe. It said produced by Lebron James. That’s the guy from Space Jam. The second Space Jam. So I figured it would be light and fun and heartwarming. I didn’t expect to be uncontrollably sobbing 28 minutes into the movie. And it’s just flat out sad crying, friends. It’s a good movie. A very good movie. One might say it’s better than the second Space Jam. Despite the lack of Don Cheadle.
