v watchable and my favorite of bong joon ho's english works. however, it lacks political imagination or strong character introspection or jokes (it only needs to pick one!) and just skims the surface of anything worth chewing on. it's fine to have a movie like this, but it stinks that my brain keeps wanting to just frame it as a "less meaty nausicaä of the wind" and shove it into a memory holed closet. i just wish for some sort of commitment!!!
