Okay, so putting into words how much All of Us Strangers means to me is actually going to be hard. Maybe I won't be able to, and perhaps that's okay. Goodbye, Dragon Inn

    ★★★★★

When people talk about important films, they almost always mention films that highlight social or political causes or perhaps technological advances in filmmaking. However, in my opinion, "Goodbye, Dragon Inn" is one of the most important films ever made in how it portrays the transformative power of cinema, the way we experience art, and the importance of creating and maintaining spaces for it. It feels weird to say that Islands is a breath of fresh air at the 75th Berlinale, because it's actually a quite simple and conventional mystery film. It's beautifully crafted and works some really nifty and satisrying twists and turns accomampined by beautiful photography, gorgeous score and a charming lead performance from Sam Riley that just oozes swagger. Islands is proof you don't have to reinvent the wheel everytime.

I’m the classic hipster contrarian douchebag, so when “Get Out” shook up cinemas around the world four years ago, I for some stupid reason said to myself “Oh everyone likes this? It’s probably not that good then!”. What a big, fat, dumb idiot I was.

The most purely entertaining film I’ve seen in quite a while. What an absolute joy and a much needed breath of fresh air into the mainstream film landscape. Told through a smart allegory for race…

    Danton's Death

    ★★★★½

Danton’s Death is a fantastic French documentary from Alice Diop, which revolves around Steve, a young black aspiring actor who battles racism and prejudice in the world of theater. He is the only black actor in his acting class and is stuck playing every stereotypical hypermasculine, violent and primitive role for a black man, while his white colleagues have the world at their feet and can pick and choose their roles, even playing those aforementioned parts in black face.
