Color me a near-sighted child of contemporary moralism, but the greying of pedophilic urges is a no for me. I'm not so ignorant as to decry any fictional depiction of immorality as bad art (I did like Happiness well enough and that shit's traumatizing), but I think this film did a mediocre job of representing sexual repression, its manifestations, and the likely response of teenage boys to said manifestations. Otherwise, there are some points about the definition of history, the pageantry of college applications, and the mispronunciation of Nietzche that I found amusing.

Like to "Peppermint Soda", "Entre Nous" plays like a really colorful, naturalistic historical fiction/romance. But this movie is a lot more thematically mature with plotlines and relationships that seem confusing at first but are woven into a very satisfying and tender conclusion. Not to mention the film is visually stunning with the formality of mid-20th century fashion but the brightness (and hair?) of the 80s.

I definitely recommend this as an approachable afternoon drama if you're looking for something dramatic but would prefer a happy ending :p

Also no spoilers but an archeologist would call the two protagonists very good friends iykwim
