Held off on watching this for so long, I thought it might struggle to live up to the anticipation. But I was surprised by it's clarity and power - and how funny it was . At least half of it comes down to the sound.

Strongly considered walking out of this one - (3 people in the theatre did).
Don't think I've ever had such an intense physical response to watching a film and by about 45mins in I was thinking that nothing in the rest of the film could make up for the unpleasantness of the experience so far.

Drive My Car 2021
Gorgeous photography and emotionally powerful. I reckon it's a mark of a good adaptation that a film can make memorable moments out of silence and stillness, just as well as it can draw from the dialogue and plot of the text.
Some of the parallels between the Chekov plays and plot did feel a bit too "smart" and wink-winky for me? Especially given the sincerity of the subject.
Would appreciate a 10hr version of the driving scenes please Mr. Hamaguchi.
