Girl, Interrupted 1999
Have not seen since we rented the VHS in the early 00s!
Honestly, I'm surprised how much this film has endured through the years despite merely being ok. The treat is seeing the young cast early on in their illustrious careers. I could kinda feel the Angie-Wyno tension!
I miss Brittany Murphy! It's a tough role but she shines like always. She would've joined the Oscar winners in this cast by now, no doubt in my mind. RIP.
MVP: Angelina just DOMINATES the screen. There's always a palpable sense of danger. You can't look away. Great Oscar win, even if Toni Collette deserved it the most!

The Major and the Minor 1942
Preposterous, problematic premise and maddening men, the movie!
AND YET...
Despite all that, it is so unbelievably charming and winning, almost miraculously so. Ginger Rogers and Ray Milland just sell the hell out of their romance, that I bought it wholeheartedly, subverting the potential ickiness. Only a master like Wilder, in a confident American directorial debut, could make it work this well. Too well even!
MVP: Gingers Rogers really shows SHE'S GOT THE RANGE. Oscar worthy performance here!

I laughed when that lady who worked in queer media said that people were taking time and holding space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity.
Cut to me ugly crying, smiling-laughing, taking time and holding space for Defying Gravity and Popular and The Wizard and I and What is This Feeling? and Dancing Through Life and I'm Not That Girl AND...
Went through a full factory reset. We are so BACK babyyyyyyyyyy!!!! And Wickeder than ever.
MVPs: Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-Butera. YOU ARE TAKING IT! Jonny Bailey... you are getting it!

To Annie B, you are simply my favourite.
How dare you invade my favourite medium and conquer it so effortlessly too? Isn't the stage enough? That's where your pregnant pauses live. Where they thrive. But no. They too soar here. In film. Where I will treasure them forever. Please. Make more.MVPs: Zoe Ziegler, Julianne Nicholson and Sophie Okonedo bring their whole lives into God's dialogue, or lack thereof. As is her will.
